Starling Storm Water Management Facility – ADDITIONAL WORK

Notice to Starling Residents:

Further to our earlier notice regarding remedial work to the storm pond on the west side of Horseshoe Creek, this is to advise that further work will need to be undertaken.  Following this summer’s completion of relining the channel portion of the pond’s clay liner to resolve leakage, the pond itself was divided by berms into 3 distinct areas and filled with water.  This division of the pond enabled monitoring of the water levels and a period of data collection to occur and if any further leakage was detected, it could be narrowed to one of the 3 areas.

The water levels were measured on a regular basis over a period of nearly 5 weeks.  Through this monitoring, it was determined that the very southern portion of the pond is still losing water at a rate in exceedance of what could be attributed to evaporation.  Consequently, this part of the pond will also need to have a new clay liner constructed.  Once ground conditions permit, Weinrich Contracting Ltd. will proceed with constructing the clay liner and this is expected to take 1-2 weeks, following which the pond will be refilled with water.  Re-landscaping of the facility will occur next season.
